General questions
?What does STTEVE do?
You put
Star Trek Timelines game data into STTEVE's form and the tool will create for you chosen CSV file with corresponding data from your game (or all CSV files in one ZIP file).
STTEVE is inspired by the same functionality of famous tool
DataCore. However, STTEVE adds more information to CSV files and also creates new CSV files.
?Who is STTEVE designed for?
- “Spreadsheet lovers”. Players that created their own spreadsheet in order to analyze their crew roster and shipyard and make right decisions in the game. STTEVE can provide them with rich set of data extracted from game and another external community tools.
- Authors of other community tools. STTEVE can provide various useful game data to these tools (e.g. list of buffs or voyage configuration). Player could import CSV file generated by STTEVE into the tool and the tool will read required data.
?Is it possible to open directly the Tool page on my next visit rather than other page?
This site remembers your last visited page using browser cookie and this page will show upon your return. Cookies must be enabled in your browser in order to work it properly. The same counts also for selected language and color theme.
Or you can bookmark the
Tool page and save it to Favorites in your browser.
?Will STTEVE remember my configuration in the Tool page?
Yes. Your configuration is automatically written to your browser storage when you submit your data to create CSV/ZIP file. Or you can save it manually by pressing the “Save settings” button at the bottom of the form. The configuration is read again when the Tool page is loaded again. JavaScript must be enabled in your browser in order to work it properly.
?How should I pronounce the name STTEVE?
Just like the name “Steve” (e.g. Steve Jobs).
?Your English needs improvement.
I'm not native english speaker so I welcome any suggestions to improve the text.
CSV files in general
?Some data are missing in the CSV file.
This can be caused by outdated external data sources, or by an internal error in STTEVE.
You can check dates of external data at the bottom of the
Tool page to consider if they are too old.
Please, inform me about the issue and I will try to resolve it.
?Some columns contain different values than identical columns in DataCore CSV file.
Do you speak about “Amount”, “Accuracy”, “Crit Bonus”, “Crit Rating” and “Evasion” columns? Yes, STTEVE calculates these columns differently but you can switch to DataCore mode to calculate them “the old way”. See more information in the
Introduction page.
Be aware that the same counts also for the “Charge phases” column but in this case, switching to DataCore mode does not provide original DataCore values.
Or do you speak about other columns? Different values can be caused by outdated external data (DataCore uses always current data) or by an error in calculating algorithm. Anyway, let me know about the issue.
?Some values in output CSV files don't correspond to values in the game.
I assume that you have entered current JSON data into STTEVE, right? Any changes made in the game AFTER getting the JSON data won't be projected to output CSV files, of course.
Different values can be caused by outdated external data or by an error in calculating algorithm. Anyway, let me know about the issue.
?Can STTEVE generate CSV files compatible with DataCore?
Yes, to some extent. Press the “DataCore defaults” button at the bottom of the
Tool page to set DataCore compatible settings.
Please be aware that values in “Charge phases” column will be somewhat different to DataCore. Also, the order of rows in STTEVE's CSV files doesn't correspond to order of rows in DataCore CSV files.
File “crew.csv”
?I miss some crew in the “crew.csv” file.
Do you miss only few or most of the crew? Or do you miss some frozen crew?
It can be caused by outdated external data. You can check date of latest update in the
Tool page. Ask me to update them if they are too much old.
Also verify STTEVE's
input form if checkboxes in “Include unowned crew/ships in CSV file” row are checked.
?Why is bonus ability amount divided into two columns - immediate and lasting?
The main idea is that some bonus abilities are instant (e.g. Instant damage, Repair Hull) while the other last for the whole duration of the battle ability (e.g. Attack speed, Crit rating). That's why the values are separated into two columns.
If you want, you can use formulas in your spreadsheet to merge these two columns into single column because it cannot happen that both columns would be filled by values.
(Background story: These columns were originally designed for my Arena Simulator. I made a first version but I realized that the ingame AI is much more complex for a spreadsheet and I stopped the work.)
?Why are there four skillset columns in the CSV file? All seem to be identical.
These skillsets contain calculated order of character's skills from the highest to lowest value. They calculate different numbers - core skill value only, core + minimum proficiency, core + average proficiency, core + maximum proficiency. Your current buffs are included, of course.
They are identical for most of the crew but there are some exceptions. Take “Nurse Paris” for example. His core values create skillset “CMD MED”. But if you add maximum proficiencies then resulting MED skill is greater than CMD skill and the skillset is “MED CMD”.
?The “CAB Rating...” columns are empty or contain wrong values.
This can be caused by outdated external data. You can check date of latest update in the
Tool page. Ask me to update them if they are too much old.
Also, sometimes there is problem with the character name that prevents correct mapping of game data to CAB Rating. It is an internal error and contact me to fix it.
File “gameinfo.csv”
?Some rows in the CSV file begin with #, / or | character. What does that mean?
These characters indicate headers in the “gameinfo.csv” file. # for Header 1, / for Header 2 and | for Header 3.
You can use these characters for conditional formatting in your spreadsheet to highlight these rows and make the content much more readable. Use the condition “starts with” in the conditional formatting.
For example in my spreadsheet, I use red-color text + larger font for # marked line, blue-color text + bold font for / marked lines and bold font for | marked lines.
?How should I use the "gameinfo.csv" file in my spreadsheet? It changes (almost) with every generation of CSV file.
Yes. Content of this file is very variable. However, first column should contain unique values (with the exception of numbered table cells). So, you can use VLOOKUP or MATCH+OFFSET or similar functions to locate unique value in the first column and return the result from another column in the same row.
You have also second option. You can use the “tinygameinfo.csv” file. It contains limited amount of data but in fully static data structure. It means that you will find required value always in same table cell.
File “equipment.csv”
?The “equipment.csv” file contains weird names of crafting items. What do the parentheses in item names mean?
This is an intentional and important feature. In contrast to DataCore, STTEVE generates the list of crafting items using unique item names.
Some items in the game share equal name. Mostly, they are items from different Star Trek eras (combadges, uniforms). STTEVE generates unique names in same format as
STT Wiki. Names of duplicit items contain Star Trek era in parentheses to create unique item name. For example, try to search for “Combadge” in the Wiki.
?What values does the “Level” column contain?
STTEVE writes here a level of first empty slot of the crew. However, this value doesn't mean that all slots at higher levels are empty. For example, crew has first slot (level 1) empty but the rest is already equipped (slots at levels 2, 4 and 5). The “Level” column will contain value of 1 while equipped slots at higher levels are ignored by this algorithm.
Note that the list of crafting items correctly addresses already equipped crew slots.
?I found that the “Level” column contains a value of 0 for some crew, which is clearly an error!
Level 0 is reserved by STTEVE to indicate “incomplete” crew for you. Such crew can contain inaccurate values and incomplete list of crafted items.
It is because STTEVE uses external data from DataCore to generate the “equipment.csv” file. There can be missing data for newly added crew and STTEVE won't be able to generate accurate values. This situation should be resolved by next data syncing with DataCore.
?The content of “equipment.csv” file from STTEVE differs significantly from the “Equipment” sheet generated by DataCore.
That's true but, IMHO, I think that the error is in the DataCore's output. I did extensive research of DataCore's “Equipment” sheet and I found some buggy behavior and illogical values that must be errors. I carefully designed STTEVE's algorithm so that it should be more precise.
On the other hand, it seems like both STTEVE and DataCore generate equal data for level 1 crew with all empty slots (e.g. freshly acquired from voyage or portal pull).
(Please don't take this as hate against DataCore. DataCore is great tool. Maybe equipment data are used only rarely so that no one reported the bugs or fixing the bugs has low priority.)
